emotions in singing | ||
In the next demonstrations you will hear the phrase: Mein Vater, mein Vater, und hörest du nicht, was Erlenkönig mir leise verspricht (Schubert) realised with six different emotions by four professional singers. The different emotions are: neutral, charming, joy, fear, sadness and anger. The most important acoustic differences are in the duration and rhythm of the phrase, the presence of vibrato, and the loudness (but be aware of the fact that the loudness of the phrases has been adapted, which implies that you will hear loudness differences in terms of timbre variation). Note that the realisations are biased because the melodic line of the phrase is not neutral but expresses fear. | listen to demonstration technical details text/transcript | |
